So here I was, a 16 year old gaijin, camera in hand, watching an old, but new to me, culture course around me.
It was the Nikko Festival, and as crowds of traditionally dressed Japanese walked past, one young girl, probably about my age, glanced back.
In scanning some old Tri-X negatives I discovered this image, long forgotten...it was 1956, after all, literally ages ago, so forgettfulness is to be expected.
The Glance Back. I wonder what it meant: curiosity; a friendly look; a deeper interest? That's never to be answered, but as you look at the picture of me at that age, I think we can all settle on curiosity.
